Five-star DE Powell names Florida as leader

OGGOA reported Wednesday that five-star defensive end recruit Ronald Powell (Moreno Valley, CA) could very well already be a silent commitment to the Florida Gators. Head coach Urban Meyer visiting California on a recruiting trip early in the week seemingly went a long way for Powell as, Thursday evening, he spoke with Rivals and named Florida his official leader. “Florida is most definitely at the top,” Powell said.

What have they done to earn that distinction? “What haven’t they done? It hasn’t been anything negative from them for one, anything at all,” he said. “Coach Meyer is a hell-of-a coach. The college is in a college town. The players, the players definitely make you feel at home. I mean just all around, it’s a great school, a great place to be.”

Though the other team Powell is considering is the local USC Trojans, he has reportedly been leaning toward the Gators for some time and has even gone out of his way to take numerous unofficial visits to Gainesville, FL, on his family’s own dime. Scouts, Inc. reported earlier in the week that Powell is ready to make his commitment official. He recently tried to set up an announcement that would air on the ESPNU Recruiting Insider show but requested the time in too short of notice for the producers to make it to happen. Others believe Powell has already scheduled a ceremony to commit Friday, but no time or location has been announced.
