The No. 7 Florida Gators may have fallen short in terms of their College Football Playoff hopes, but that does not change what head coach Dan Mullen’s team accomplished in a record-setting 2020 season. At 8-3 with three losses by a combined 12 points and two to a pair of top six teams in the nation (No. 1 Alabama, No. 5 Texas A&M), the Gators will still be headed to a major bowl game.

In fact, they will play in a New Year’s Six game for the third straight season under Mullen.

It was revealed Sunday that Florida will head to the 2020 Cotton Bowl where it will face Big 12 champion No. 6 Oklahoma (8-2). The Gators and Sooners have met just once before as UF beat OU 24-14 in the 2009 BCS Championship Game.

Florida has never played in the Cotton Bowl, while Oklahoma is 1-1 in two appearances.

The Cotton Bowl is now played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which this year will also be the site of the relocated Rose Bowl semifinal for the College Football Playoff. Kickoff is set for Wednesday, Dec. 30 at 8 p.m. ET.

The Gators open as a 3-point favorite over the Sooners.
