Earlier this season, the Florida Gators revealed that they would wear blue throwback helmets for a 2020 game, donning the lids for the first time since the 1960s. Just over a month later, the No. 6 Gators will wear blue helmets again, but this time it is a redesign of the current helmet style that Florida has been wearing since 1979.
The Gators on Thursday revealed those helmets to the world as part of the uniform Florida will wear for its road game Saturday against the Tennessee Volunteers. UF traditionally does not wear orange (whether jerseys or pants) when playing UT, but this year it is taking the threads a step further with blue lids atop the white jersey and blue pants.
This will be the first time the Gators are wearing a modern blue helmet. The design replaces the traditionally blue “Gators” script with orange script and the blue stripes with orange stripes. A simple, modern change that enhances the team’s look and provides another uniform option.
For the first time in the modern era, Florida now has orange, blue and white options for its helmets, jerseys and pants.
