Just a couple months after seeing him make a pledge to their in-state rival, the Florida Gators on Friday flipped three-star center Jake Slaughter (Ocala, FL) from his verbal commitment to Florida State. He had been committed to FSU since April.
Slaughter (6-foot-4, 300 pounds) is a local product attending Trinity Catholic High School about 45 minutes away from the University of Florida. He’s rated as the No. 9 center in the nation, per the 247Sports Composite.
“I will be de-committing from Florida State University and committing to the University of Florida,” Slaughter wrote in a Twitter post. “… I’ve always known I was a Gator and I’m happy to say that I’m staying home!”
The Gators remain stagnant with their Class of 2021 ranked 10th nationally and fourth in the SEC despite the additions three prospects in the last two weeks. Florida is one of only three teams in the top 10 without a five-star commitment. It now has 20 underclassmen commits (10 four-stars, 10 three-stars) as part of its Class of 2021, which was ranked as high as seventh nationally this summer. UF is also counting a pair of former commitments now in junior college — linebacker Diwun Black and guard Deyavie Hammond — as part of its class, giving the Gators 22 overall for this cycle. Black is ranked as the No. 1 overall JUCO player in the nation, per 247Sports.
