The Florida Gators’ growing Class of 2022 added another member Sunday as guard Denzel Aberdeen (Orlando, FL) committed to join the program next season. He is the second prospect to commit to Florida since the start of the month.

Aberdeen (6-foot-4, 175 pounds) is considered a three-star prospect by 247Sports rankings and four-star prospect by ESPN. He did not have a significant offer list until this summer when he took visits to Oklahoma, Minnesota, Texas Tech and Georgia Tech. Suddenly, he had offers from all of those programs along with Virginia Tech, Ole Miss and Iona, which comprised his final eight.

“IM STAYING HOME,” he announced Sunday on his Twitter account along with an image of the Gators.

Aberdeen joins five-star power forward Malik Reneau (Hialeah, FL) to make up the two-member Class of 2022 for Florida. The Gators’ class is currently ranked 31st nationally in the 247Sports Composite team rankings, though that will likely improve once Aberdeen receives a composite rating from the service.

Florida’s high school recruiting has been disappointing over the last couple of seasons, but the combination of Reneau — the No. 26 overall prospect in the class — and Aberdeen creates some momentum in the 2022 cycle. Reneau would be the highest-rated post player to sign with the Gators since Chris Walker (Class of 2013) if he follows through with his verbal pledge.
