Florida basketball recruiting: Gators sign Malik Reneau, Jalen Reed, Denzel Aberdeen for 2022 class

Florida Gators basketball has inked three top prospects in the Class of 2022 with five-star forward Malik Reneau (Hialeah, FL), four-star forward Jalen Reed (Castaic, CA) and three-star guard Denzel Aberdeen (Orlando, FL) sending in their National Letters of Intent to join the program in the early signing period. Those three are presently only players who were verbally committed to the Gators entering the first National Signing Day of the cycle.

Reneau (6-foot-8, 210 pounds) is ranked as the No. 25 overall player and No. 3 power forward in 2022, according to the 247Sports Composite. He is the first five-star prospect to sign with Florida since Scottie Lewis and Tre Mann in 2019 and the highest-rated post player to do so since Chris Walker in 2013.

Reed (6-foot-10, 220 pounds) like Reneau committed to the Gators over a stout list of offers. The son of Justin Reed, a former NBA player and All-SEC standout at Ole Miss, the younger Reed is considered one of the most versatile frontcourt prospects in the 2022 class, ranked No. 92 nationally.

Aberdeen (6-foot-4, 175 pounds), who is listed as a four-star prospect by ESPN, committed between Reneau and Reed. Though he did not initially have a significant list of offers, interest in him grew nationally throughout the summer when he took visits to a number of big-time Power Five programs. As such, he was boosted to No. 193 overall in the 247Sports Composite.

With the trio now signed, Florida’s Class of 2022 ranked No. 18 nationally and No. 4 in the SEC. There are still a few months until the second National Signing Day, so the Gators could add to their class. Florida head coach Mike White and his staff have targeted a number of other prospects but may wait to see how their roster shakes out before adding additional commitments.
