Four-star outside linebacker Lorenzo Phillips (Patterson, LA), considered by Rivals to be the 14th best player at his position and No. 160 overall high school football player, has officially decommitted from the Florida Gators according to various reports including one from InsidetheGators.com.
Phillips decommitted from Florida and said the Gators are no longer an option. He instead prefers to play college football closer to home.
When he pledged to play for Florida on June 15, Phillips became the highest-rated linebacker and sixth-best recruit on the Gators’ 2012 commitment list.
UF still has two linebackers – four-stars Jeremi Powell (Largo, FL) and Antonio Morrison (Bolingbrook, IL) – committed for next year.
Florida will likely look to four-star OLB Josh Harvey-Clemons (Valdosta, GA) to take Phillips’s slot. At 6’5” and 208 lbs., Harvey-Clemons is ranked as the No. 2 outside linebacker and 37th most talented athlete nationally by Rivals.
and the hits just keep ooooon com’n
Is he aware of our buy one Underage Drinking charge get two future DUI charges exponged policy?
^ now that’s good lol.. this story? not so much.. let’s hope he’s alone, and more don’t follow.
Dah na na nah na na!!! Gator bait!!! Magic is brewin y’all, when it’s ready be ready for the “Boom”, if they don’t wanna be part let em run, I wish em well, but they aren’t gator material… By the way thanks Adam for all you do, single handily help me with my gator addiction!!!
Adam,
I read the decommitment was a rumor. It was actually confirmed yesterday via his coach that him kicking Florida out was a rumor….not sure what to believe at this point
It was a rumor but he told the editor of the Florida Rivals site today that he has indeed decommitted and eliminated UF. Supposedly it’s mutual.
I don’t feel so bad if it was mutual. Sounds like a potential character issue. At first it seemed curious that after 3 big losses to a team from LA and 2 from Bama, that maybe there was some luster lost for him, but if mutual, must be something deeper and probably good riddance (or they have a silent commit from the top tier they need more)
Lsu all the way. Heard they will still after him hard.
Not that surprising. It’s not often we can pull talent of that level from Louisiana. They always seem to end up at LSU. Hopefully Jeremi Powell is as good as advertised.
I could care less about Phillips. Humphries is who I am worried about.
Don’t think you need to worry about him.
Clemons looks like a good catch if we can land him.
Adam, In your opinion, what are the odds that each individual commit actually commit. Who do you think are the definites and those that might waiver?
I think the only one taking visits right now is Brian Poole, but he said that from the beginning.
Happens all the time to every program. Kids committing early then changing their minds. Being a Gator is much nore than just words and apparantly his heart wasn’t really in it. I would rather save the scholarship for some other talented player who really wants to be here rather than someone who will back out because they “want to stay closer to home.” Go Gators!
Nothing wrong with wanting to stay closer to home, this is probably one of the hardest decisions he will have to make in his life and proximity to family is important. There are plenty of players in the state of Florida that would give anything to wear the orange and blue, focus on them.
I agree. These are big decisions the kids are making, and difficult to reverse once they are enrolled. For a regular undergrad, all they have to do to transfer is fill out a new application somewhere else. Nobody has to request permission to be released from an academic scholarship, and Merit Scholars don’t have to sit out a year if they change schools. These guys should take their time and make sure their decision is the right one for THEM, not for mom/dad/uncle/coach/alumni/etc.
If he doesn’t want to be a gator it’s better off that he’s gone
….. Yes, but 4 months ago he wanted to be one and now he doesn’t. Why? What is it that causes these kids to be so enamored with us that they commit, then get pulled away. Thats what I’m concerned about.
If he doesn’t want to be a gator I’m glad he’s not going to attend
Clemons is a beast, by far the best player in south ga.
